Reference pages to keep open while you read the notes and work through the labs
What this section is
This section collects the course’s standing reference pages: notation, formulas, and software setup. None of these is a week’s worth of new content on its own — each is a short, stable page meant to sit open in a browser tab alongside a week’s note or a lab, so you can look something up without losing your place.
The three reference pages
- Notation glossary — every symbol used across the course (parameters vs. statistics, likelihood notation, hypothesis-testing notation, Bayesian notation, and the standard conventions for each) collected in one place, with the meaning of each symbol stated plainly.
- Inference formula reference — the standard errors, confidence interval forms, test statistics, power/likelihood expressions, and Bayesian updating formulas used across the term, gathered onto one page for quick lookup.
- R and Quarto setup — how the course’s R and Quarto environment is organized, and what you need to have working before the labs ask you to run code in your own session.
How to use these pages
Keep the relevant reference page open in a second tab while you read a week’s note or work through a lab. The notation glossary and the formula reference are especially useful side-by-side with the “Concept development” and “Worked examples” sections of a week’s note, where a symbol or a formula is used without being re-derived from scratch. The R and Quarto setup page is most useful before you sit down with a lab for the first time.
Public vs. graded
These notes, the examples, and the practice here are public and ungraded — study material only. No graded prompts, answer keys, rubrics, point values, or due dates appear on this site. Graded inference checkpoints, quizzes, homework, labs, the midterm, the project, and the final live in Blackboard (the LMS), which is authoritative for due dates, submissions, and grades. If this page and Blackboard ever disagree, follow Blackboard.
