Resources

This course is built around open, student-accessible materials. The main source spine is Introduction to Modern Statistics (2e) from OpenIntro. We will also use selected biomedical and life-science contexts from Introductory Statistics for the Life and Biomedical Sciences, along with course-specific notes, StatKey activities, micro-lab tickets, interpretation-focused assignments, and a custom late-semester meta-analysis unit.

Primary course text

Introduction to Modern Statistics (2e) Mine Çetinkaya-Rundel and Johanna Hardin. OpenIntro.

This is the main open textbook and source spine for the course. We will not necessarily follow every section in textbook order, but many course topics, examples, and practice problems are adapted from or aligned with this text.

Optional supplementary text

Introductory Statistics for the Life and Biomedical Sciences Julie Vu and David Harrington. OpenIntro, First Edition.

This text is used as an optional supplementary resource, especially for biomedical and life-science contexts. Selected sections, examples, or problems may be useful for topics involving health, biology, risk, diagnosis, and biomedical study design. The course does not require students to use R.

Course-specific materials

Additional course notes, activities, micro-lab tickets, assignments, and the late-semester meta-analysis unit are developed specifically for this UA Little Rock course. These materials are designed to emphasize interpretation, study design, uncertainty, evidence, and clear communication.
